Message from the Rector of the University, Dr. Panayiotis Zaphiris

Since March 2020, the COVID pandemic has affected all the University’s operations and our lives, in terms of social contacts and personal priorities and ways of living.

Our University is in the process of a strong restart. A fresh restart in which we need to define and restructure our priorities and operations. COVID has tested our abilities and strengths and I believe we managed to prove ourselves as a new, vibrant University, ready and able to handle the changing landscape in Higher Education.

This effort and its successful outcome was a collective affair. We were thrilled by the seriousness and dedication of our student representatives who responded to the call for participation in the crisis management team we formed.

Our optimism has been fueled by the zeal and efficiency shown by the relevant executives who supported all aspects of our actions. It gave us new confidence to learn and the willingness of our academics to put knowledge and experience towards the service of a great and collective goal. Our students made us proud of the courage, perseverance and responsiveness they showed in these unprecedented and demanding conditions.

A typical example of this new dynamic, as well as the ability for adaptability shown by our University in all areas, is the CUT-OUT event of the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts. The samples of work of the graduates of the Department prove once again the excellent work carried out in the Department.

I extend my warmest congratulations to our students who are exhibiting their work for the successful completion of their studies, and I wish them every success in whatever they do. To the academic colleagues who contributed to the preparation of the online event, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks.

Dr. Panayiotis Zaphiris
Professor

Message from the Department Chair, Dr. Andri Ioannou

Welcome to the final exhibition 2021 by the graduates of the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts.

We have reached the end of yet another academic year. We would like to express our happiness that the students of our Department have managed, under the rough circumstances caused by the pandemic for a second academic year, to complete their studies and prepare the CUTOUT2021 final exhibition. To ensure safety for everyone, the exhibition will take place online, again this year. Starting 25th of June, you may enjoy the work of our students at 2021.cutout.cut.ac.cy

In the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts, we aim to prepare our students to face the professional demands in this field, fostering interdisciplinarity in design and promoting collaboration between industry, academia, and research organizations. We aim to cultivate thinkers and problem solvers that will contribute to society and social change for a better world through design. We are confident that through this showcase, it will become evident that the goal has been achieved for yet another cohort of graduates.

Just as every year, Mr. Yiotis Kyriakou, owner of “The Copy Shop” at Saripolou, will present two awards worth €250 to the best graduates of each direction. We wish to thank him for the initiative.

I wish to thank my colleagues, Omiros Panayides, Eva Korae, Aekaterini Mavri, Angelos Panayides, Theseas Mouzouropoulos, and Evripides Zantides, members of the organization committee for the final exhibition, as well as the technical assistants of the Department, Giorgos Pitsillides, Paris Christodoulou, and Charalambos Margaritis for the devotion they showed in supporting our students for their online exhibition. Also, special thanks to our students Loucas Gregoriou, Anastasia Menandinou, and Fanis Mahmalat for the overall student coordination, setting up the platform, content, and social media for the exhibition.

On behalf of my colleagues at the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts, I would like to congratulate our graduates for completing their studies successfully. I wish our graduates every success in the future!

Dr. Andri Ioannou,
Associate Professor
Head of the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts
